Modernism: a period of time in the 19th and early 20th century when industrialization caused widespread cultural and economic upheaval. This caused deliberate philosophical and practical departure from the past in the arts and literature.

Post modernism: A deliberate philosophical ans practical departure from modernism. Postmodernism developed in the course of the mid 20th century and continues in cultural and society today.

Simulacra: The postmodern copy; reproduced and manipulated to the point that it no longer resembles its original

Hyperreal: Where reality and fiction are indistinguishable, 'more than': improving upon reality

Hyperreality: 1.) Basic reflection of reality
                       2.) Perversion of reality
                        3.) Pretense of reality (Where there isn't a model)
                         4.) Simulacrum, which bears no relation to any reality whatsoever

Stuart Hall: Theory of representation The idea that representation is the production of meaning through language, with language being defined in its broadest sense as a system of signs. For example the positioning of the charity advert is enforced early on through the environment with: dry crops, insect noises,beige pallet, intense heat and underdeveloped infrastructure. Another idea is that the relationship between concepts and signs is governed by codes, the idea that stereotyping as a for of representation reduces people to a few simple characteristics or traits. For instance Claudia is wearing stereo-typically feminine clothing, with a pink shirt and print skirt.
