Mitski Miyawaki (Mitski) is an American singer-songwriter, who primarily features indie and indie rock themes throughout her works

Mitski attend Purchase's college of music in New york, and she studied studio compositions, during this time period she recorded and self-released her piano-based first and second albums, Lush (2012) and 'Retired from Sad, New Career in Business' (2013), as her student projects. Post graduation she worked as the lead vocalist for the band 'Voice Coils' and also began working on her third album 'Bury me at makeout creek'.

On December 22, 2015, Mitski signed with Dead Oceans (an American independent record label established in 2007 based in Bloomington, Indiana and Austin, Texas) then she announced her fourth studio album, Puberty 2, in March of 2016, and shared the lead single, 'Your Best American Girl' as well as the single 'Happy', before the release of the album on June 17.


Miscellaneous

Mitski's  cover of One Direction's song 'Fireproof' featured on the album 'Our first 100 Days' The compilation aims to raise funds for organizations that support causes threatened by Donald Trump's proposed policies.

Mitski reflects her cross-cultural identity as "half Japanese, half American but not fully either", a feeling that is often reflected in her music and her music videos, which occasionally discusses the issues surrounding belonging and isolation.
